Building Regulations Update
With the new building regulations coming into force on the 15th June 2022, we wanted to reassure you that when you specify a product from Exeter Trade Aluminium it will be fully compliant with the updated regulations.
Part L
The Government is making changes to Part L of the building regulations. The aim of the new regulations is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions produced by homes.
The new legislation means that the thermal regulations for windows and opening will change.
The New Standards
Existing Properties:
- – The U-value for windows will be 1.4 W/m2k or Window Energy Rating (WER) Band B minimum.
- – For doors which are more than 60% glazed the minimum U-value will be 1.4 W/m2k or Doorset Energy Rating (DER) Band C.
- – For all other doors the minimum U-value will be 1.4 W/m2k or Doorset Energy Rating Band B.
New Builds:
- – The U-value will be a minimum of 1.6 W/m2k for windows and doors, including glazed doors, in new build properties.
Part F
Existing Properties:
Existing Windows with Trickle Vents should:
- – Not be smaller than the background ventilators in the original window
- – Be controllable either automatically or by the occupant
Existing Windows without Trickle Vents should:
- – Incorporate Trickle Vents in the replacement windows
Product Changes
The windows and doors which we fabricate have been upgraded to meet the new regulations. The products style and look will stay the same, as there are no changes to the external aesthetics of the products. However internally the frames have been modified to help achieve the new standards.
All of our windows and doors have been rigorously tested against the new U-values to ensure they comply. As such we are able to offer a comprehensive range of products – windows, doors, sliding doors, bi-folding doors, and curtain walls – that fully comply with the new regulations.
With some products also exceeding the new U-value requirement, providing additional thermal performance and making them future proof, in lieu of additional regulatory changes in the future.
We’ve been preparing for these changes for well over a year to ensure we can provide our customers with the absolute reassurance that when you install a product from ETA they are fully compliant with the updated regulations.
